What a way to kick off December 2007. Incase you hadn’t noticed, there were a lot of Holiday events across the Santa Clarita Valley this weekend. A few of which I was able to attend with my children. I believe I saw Santa Claus at least 3 times this weekend, or was it four? Even at Wal-Mart, sitting on a make shift chair made from stacks of Coca-Cola cases. That jolly guy gets around.
Some of the more notable events happened in Old Town Newhall, and in Valencia. The Old Town Newhall holiday celebration was a two day event spanning Friday and Saturday, with highlights such as a Children’s Holiday Parade, Snow at William s. Hart Park, and a “Paint The Town” event held on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
Today in Valencia, there was the 22nd annual Henry Mayo Community Tree Lighting. That was a bit more put together than the Old Town Newhall event. At the tree lighting, there were various vendors such as Vincenzo’s Pizza from the Lyons Avenue location, a train ride on wheels for the kids, face painting, dance teams giving it their best on stage, and a few regular faces such as Bob Kellar, and Tim Ben Boydsten, Santa Clarita City Councilmembers. The tree looked great. My wife surprised me, by making me look at an obscure book on a pedestal at the event. I reluctantly looked, almost spoiling her surprise, and found that she had dedicated a light on the tree to my grandmother, as some other people did, to late loved ones. It’s was a great way to remember someone special, and donate funds at the same time to HMNMH Foundation. Thanks Jaimie!
