The Signal’s Editorial Board – “Now Is The Time To Buy”

in Local RE Reports

I’ve become so used to reading negative reports about our real estate market in newspapers, bubble blogs, and watching television pundints declare it’s the end of the world, that I was caught a bit off guard when I read yesterday’s article from The Signal’s editorial board about the state of our “local” real estate market here in Santa Clarita.

According to me, they aren’t saying anything I really didn’t know, but to put their own credibility on the line, when they certainly don’t have to, was a breath of fresh air. In my humble opinion, and based on what I see, 2008 is the year to buy a home in Santa Clarita, if you haven’t already. Prices will come down more this year, but trust me, buyers are coming out of the wood works right now and they don’t want to hibernate for too much longer. They’re tired of renting, and throwing out their trash in a community dumpster 200 feet away from their front door. It’s time to park their car, in their own garage, and throw that trash out in their very own side yard, where their very own blue barrel dumpster is located!

The Signal’s editorial board noted that while sales in the last month we have stats on (Nov 07) have decreased year over year in Santa Clarita by about 39%, that figure doesn’t really compare with the fact that the majority of Los Angeles County is over 50% lower in their year over year closed sales as of the month of November 07. That paints a picture of desirability for the Santa Clarita Valley. Almost everyone values how nice our area is and the quality of life it offers, and that value is what shelters our local real estate market from the full on extreme real estate conditions that many other areas of Southern California are feeling.

Things are picking up. I can’t tell you how many offers I’ve written in just the last 2 weeks, and how many people have been emailing me, letting me know that they want to get approved for a loan, and start their house hunting project. A lot of the people calling and emailing me, are first time buyers too! Apparently fear of the real estate market is not a factor for this group of buyers! Anytime we have prices moving down, in conjunction with interest rates heading the same direction, it creates the perfect environment to buy a home in. Am I biased? Maybe just an ounce. Am I blind? No. The interest in our real estate market that I’m receiving from potential buyers, to me, is a very telling sign, and goes very much against the bulk of media reports you and I both read and hear on a daily basis.
